José María Baño Fos joined Baño León in 2012 from Cleary Gottlieb, where he worked as an associate specialising in competition law. During that time, he advised high-profile clients including Google, Telefónica, SES ASTRA, Gas Natural, and NewsCorp on matters such as abuse of dominance, cartels, state aid, and internal market regulations. Prior to this, José María worked in the commercial and EU law departments at the Pérez-Llorca law firm in Madrid. He graduated with honours from the University of Valencia and earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) with distinction from Fordham University, supported by a Caja Madrid Foundation scholarship. He has been a member of the Madrid Bar since 2008 and the New York Bar since 2009, balancing his legal practice with academic roles at the Instituto de Empresa.

Currently, José María Baño Fos serves as an adjunct professor of comparative administrative law at the Instituto de Empresa. He has published widely on topics including director liability, the statute of limitations on damages claims in competition law, and the regulation of minority shareholdings. He was also invited to collaborate as a visiting professor with the University of Galway in Ireland, contributing his expertise on European and comparative law topics.
